The Movie bags award trinity
A humorous reflection on the afterlife was voted the outstanding entry at this year’s Janison Short Sharp Film Festival.
Before an enthusiastic audience at the Jetty Memorial Theatre the film named ‘The Movie’ won the award for the best Coffs Coast Film and was voted the People’s Choice winner before being announced as the festival’s best film.
It was back-to-back success for Sawtell-based Forge Films headed by director/producer team Mark and Megan George.
With their partners in celluloid creativity, David and Fiona Foulkes, they last year won the top award with their entry ‘Bullseye’.
David Foulkes also toasted individual success when his short, ‘The Boy Next Door’, won the award for best Mid North Coast film.
Those entries emerged from a top class field of 10 finalists, including some very impressive shorts produced by students from the Media studies course at Port Macquarie TAFE.
Also in the mix and eventually announced the runner-up was Melbourne entry ‘Special Korean Sauce’. Its writer and director, Charles Davis, grew up in Coffs Harbour as did its stars Camilla Jackson, Victoria Thaine and Anna Kim-Anderson.
A separate program for animated shorts was included to mark the fourth year of the festival.
The top prize went to an entry from California with another from Malaysia receiving a special encouragement award.
