Moranbah Miners have new coach.

THE Moranbah Miners have a new coach.

Assistant David Stevens has taken on the A-grade role from Dale Bloomfield, who stepped down for family reasons.

The new coach has only been in charge for one game, the team's win against the Sarina Crocodiles two weeks ago.

Stevens said his coaching philosophy was similar to Bloomfield's.

"We just need a new direction and the players have obviously responded," he said. "We did it formally and had a meeting and the players are all keen and have a got a new energy into the team."

The Miners sit fifth on the ladder, in the last finals position. They play 2015 winners, the Whitsunday Brahmans, Saturday night in Proserpine.

Stevens knows it will be a challenge to win.

"It's always a hard game up there, it's either freezing cold or pouring rain, so I think we might have both this weekend," he said.
