The Coffs Coast’s HSC Distinguished Achievers

IT'S the end of a very long road of 13 years of schooling for Year 12 students on the Coffs Coast this week as the HSC results and Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank are released.

Our schools performed exceptionally well, with 53% of Coffs Harbour Senior College students receiving band five and six, and 27% of Bishop Druitt College students earning band six.

St John Paul College students Keiran O'Sullivan and Liam Ogbuen and Coffs Harbour Senior College student Lachlan Lugg all made the prestigious HSC all-round achievers list of NSW students who received the highest band - more than 90% - in all their subjects.

Strong HSC results put many local students in a strong position to receive a high ATAR score to enable them to apply to their desired courses.

After earning a high 97.2 ATAR, the world is Lachlan's oyster after being offered early entry into University of NSW and Macquarie University.

"I definitely want to go to university at some stage so I might defer a course and have a gap year," he said.

"But then my parents said it was the best time of their lives going to uni, so I'm at a 60-40 split whether I'll go or not."

Other graduates, like Kyrstina Parker of Coffs Harbour Senior College, will be going an alternative route and getting straight into the workforce.

Kyrstina is moving to the Gold Coast with her boyfriend.

Some students have been invited to show their artistry with the best in the state, including Bishop Druitt College student Jesse Robinson, whose textile and design piece is nominated for the Texstyle HSC exhibit.

Also from Bishop Druitt, music student Hamish Stuart has been nominated to perform a piece from his music major work performance at Encore at the Sydney Opera House, while Stephanie Egan and Connor Schumer-Caldwell have been nominated to perform their music major work pieces at Bravissimo in Port Macquarie.
