The Carols are coming

DON'T forget - Coffs Coast Carols will be at Brelsford Park next Saturday from 5pm.

Jack Thompson will be there along with Brothers 3 and lots of local bands including D'Boyzos. It will be a fun-filled event with free face-painting, bouncy castles, food stalls, choirs, a visit from Santa and a fireworks display finale. See you there.

WaterWise Beyond Their Years

Recently, I and some of my fellow Councillors have had the privilege of visiting local schools to present them with their WaterWise Refresher certificates.

These are schools that have already completed the WaterWise programme, but have gone through a review and update of the ways they try to be as water conscious as possible.

WaterWise Schools aim to educate the students and the wider school community to adopt environmentally-responsible behaviour towards the use of water. The idea is that they also become advocates and spokespeople for sustainable water use habits.

I am always impressed by the work and creativity that goes into some of the changes that schools adopt. From capturing rain water, to growing veggies and even having chickens, the young people involved show such commitment and knowledge that it puts us oldies to shame.

Well done Ulong, Narranga, Casuarina Steiner and Upper Orara schools!

Australia Day Committee

Would you like to be involved in helping shape community Australia Day events? Do you have a few hours you could spare throughout the year to become a member of Coffs Harbour's Australia Day Committee? We have a very dedicated group who have been fantastic volunteers on the Committee for many years, but some of them would now like to offer the opportunity to other members of the community.

The Committee acts as an advisory body to council and helps choose the Australia Day Award winners, as well as providing input into Australia Day events.

If you would like to get involved, please call council on 6648 4000. We'd love to hear from you.

Congratulations

Well done to Sarah Goffman, the very first winner of the STILL: National Still Life Award. We had an amazing opening night and winner's announcement. The Gallery was packed and many of the finalists had travelled from as far away as Adelaide and Tasmania to be there.

There was such a buzz. The Award has not only captured the interest of Australia's artists, but has grabbed the attention of the Coffs Harbour community too.

If you haven't already been to see the show, it's on at the Regional Gallery until January 20 2018.
