Abbott sends "Dob in a Dealer" hotline national for $1m

THE Abbott government will spend $1 million extra promoting the nation's crime hotline, in an effort to ensure more drug dealers are caught.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott said the funding would promote a national expansion of Victoria's "Dob in a Dealer" program.

While the funds would not increase the number of staff answering calls, it would promote the Crime Stoppers hotline - 1800 333 000 - for people to report suspicious drug-related activity.

Mr Abbott said people should be wary of those in the community displaying a lifestyle that their day job could not afford.
