Letter to the Editor - June 17: Thanking so many faces

AS THE photographer of the Faces of Coffs Harbour, I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people who have assisted the community photographic arts project celebrating the multicultural and diverse community we have on the Coffs Coast.

I felt privileged to have met so many wonderful people and learn their stories over the course of the project

While there have been many people to thank, the principal ones are as follows :

Coffs Harbour City Council,(Mayor Cr. Denise Knight, Cr. Nan Cowling,Susan Clarke),Coffs Harbour Bunker Cartoon Gallery (Dr. Leigh Summers,Lisa Magri) CANDO Cancer Trust, Fletchers Fotographics,Coffs Ex Services Club & RSL Sub Branch, Matt Deans and the Coffs Coast Advocate, John Ross NBN TV News.

Every person who I photographed and agreed to become part of this project is to be congratulated along with the many people who purchased a photo to support CANDO.

The portrait collection is expected to be kept as an archive for future generations to access through the Picture Coffs Harbour Library.

I wish the directors of the Coffs Harbour Bunker Gallery Inc. well for their venture in running the Bunker Cartoon Gallery as a single use as a cartoon gallery.

I am grateful to Dr. Leigh Summers and Lisa Magri for inviting me to show the portrait collection in the Bunker, as it is unlikely that the Bunker will be available for art or photographic exhibitions in the future. Coffs Harbour is fortunate to have two talented arts administrators in Leigh and Lisa, together a thriving arts community with many talented photographers who should be afforded opportunities for exhibit spaces.

I urge the Coffs Harbour City Council and arts community to work together to find the resources for a place to showcase their works in addition to the Regional Art Gallery, now that the Bunker is likely to be no longer available, or for the Coffs Harbour Bunker Gallery Inc to allow some space for art works and photography other than cartoons during the next year.
