TENDERS have been called for the redevelopment of the Coffs Harbour slipway site, once it has been remediated.

The Department of Primary Industries this week opened tenders for the construction of a boat retrieval and maintenance facility at the site.

Proposals will be evaluated while the slipway is being remediated between February and June next year to remove contaminants from the area.

The successful applicant will take over the site after the site is certified to be decontaminated.

The Fishermen's Co-operative is currently operating the slipway but that will cease once the remediation begins.

Coffs Harbour MP Andrew Fraser said the DPI may permit opportunities to retrieve boats by crane and undertake maintenance on the site until development of the new facility is complete.
