Tender for intersection works on the agenda

WHEN councillors gather for their fortnightly meeting on Thursday evening, the contract for the intersection of Gordon St and Harbour Dr will be on the  agenda.

The decision to close Harbour Dr for six to eight weeks to carry out earthworks, road, footpath and drainage work has proved controversial and this week the councillors have to grapple with the fact only one company has put in a tender.

To complicate matters, that tender does not conform to the council's preferred timeline.

That timeline sees work beginning after the World Rally Championship on September 14 and being completed and the road reopening to traffic before the peak Christmas period.
