Telecross in crisis
PHONE volunteers are needed urgently for the Coffs Coast’s Telecross service.
Telecross is a Red Cross service which has operated locally for almost 20 years.
Each morning a volunteer makes a phone call to a person who is living at home and who is frail, elderly or medically at risk.
Sometimes it is the only friendly talk that person has all day. Sometimes a medical emergency is averted by a timely call.
Volunteers work on a month on, month off roster, and the call need only take a minute or two. The service is currently in crisis.
With more than 70 clients whose lives could be at risk without this service and only 100 volunteers, the office desperately needs helpers.
Co-ordinator Ann Rehwinkel needs two people to help in the office in the Coffs Harbour city centre from 8am until 10am and to assist with rosters and office routines, including making calls.
As well, there is a need for volunteer callers who can work from home.
Ann would love to hear from you if you have the time to assist the service.
It is an easy way to help others and is so appreciated by the clients.
Please call Ann on 6651 3363.
