Teenager headed to Hawaii to live basketball dream

SUNS basketballer Jessi Reeves will live the dream after securing a scholarship to play in the USA.

An active member of Coffs Harbour Basketball Association since under-12s, the now 18-year-old heads to Honolulu for the next four years to attend Hawaii Pacific University.

"I was talking scholarships with several colleges and made the commitment to Hawaii Pacific and coach Reid Takatsuka," Reeves said.

"HPU is listed as one of the Best Western regional colleges and Coach Takatsuka has taken the Sea Warriors to the Pacific West Conference final four and has been awarded coach-of-the-year for this conference."

Jessi completed HSC studies last year at John Paul College and leaves Australia for Hawaii in August with the season beginning in September.

She will be living with teammates and will major in mathematics.

"This is just such a good fit for me and I am so excited for the opportunity," Reeves added.

"Coach Takatsuka is really positive and intuitive and I simply cannot wait to play as a Sea Warrior and study at HPU.

"I'm a little nervous about the whole experience but at the same time ... wow ... what a tremendous opportunity."
