Teen spits on police in court

A TEENAGER was remanded in custody after a number of violent incidents yesterday, including the assault of a policeman during court proceedings.

The young woman, 16, was arrested after assaulting a 24-year-old Toormina female walking along the Pacific Highway at 2am Sunday.

At the court appearance yesterday morning, the young woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, resisted leaving the court room with police, resulting in one police officer being spat on, another being bitten, an attempt to bite another, as well as smashing the wrist watch of one other.

She has been further charged with assault, malicious damage and resisting police.
