Teen pair head Stateside with Dunkeroos tourists

TEENAGERS Janica Duncombe and Courtney Smith are heading to the United States this weekend with the East Coast Dunkeroos Basketball Club.

They join 33 other Coffs Harbour girls in an exclusive club that has toured overseas to play basketball over the past nine years.

Junior coach Les Gough has never missed a trip and will again accompany the girls as assistant tour manager and assistant team coach.

The Coffs girls will join six other team members from southern Queensland to undertake a four-week overseas tour of Japan and the USA.

During their time in America the team will travel through California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Time has been set aside while visiting Tokyo and Los Angeles for shopping and all the touristy things.

But it will be all business when they hit Texas.

Teams will be involved in three high school tournaments in the space of 14 days against the best the Lone Star State has to offer.

The tour will also take in three NBA games, a professional ice hockey game, and numerous college games before a visit to Disneyland and the California Science Centre to view the recently retired Space Shuttle Endeavour.
