Police arrested 12 people in Ipswich overnight.

A 16-YEAR-OLD girl and a 20-year-old man were arrested in Sydney yesterday on suspicion of financing a terrorist group, reportedly Islamic State.

The maximum sentence for the offence is 25 years in jail.

NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn said police were working to raise awareness of the indicators of children being radicalised.

The arrests did not relate to a planned terrorist attack in Australia and there was no imminent threat as a result of yesterday's activity, the Federal Police's Michael Phelan said.
