Teen charged over alleged Park Beach street assault

A TEEN has been charged over an alleged assault in Park Beach which left a man in hospital with critical head injuries.

Strike Force Satur was established to investigate the incident and about 8am today, a 19-year-old Coffs Harbour man was arrested at his home.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm in company, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.

The man was refused bail to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court later today.

Police have been told two men, aged 35 and 41, both from Coffs Harbour, were on walking Ocean Pde when they were involved in an argument with another group of people about 12.15am on Monday.

A short time later, a small sedan drove into the street and two males got out of the vehicle.

Police will allege the 35-year-old man was knocked unconscious when he was punched in the face, fell backwards and hit his head on road surface.

The 41-year-old man was also allegedly knocked to the ground before the two males left in the vehicle.

The younger man was airlifted to Sydney where he remains in a critical but stable condition. The older man was treated for soft tissue injuries at Coffs Harbour and released the same day.
