Teen charged with attempted murder

A TEENAGER accused of setting a woman alight earlier this year and leaving her permanently disfigured has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

On March 22, a 33-year-old woman was walking to work in Sydney's east when she was doused in an accelerant and set alight.

A colleague came to her aid and she was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition with extensive burns to her face and body.

She has since been discharged but continues to undergo daily hospital treatment.

Yesterday, a 17-year-old boy attended the Redfern Police Station in the company of a lawyer and was remanded in custody.

He will appear in the Bidura Children's Court today.

Meanwhile, detectives have travelled to Coffs Harbour to interview a 40-year-old man.

Charges are expected to be laid later today.
