Teams rallying for a record Relay for Life fundraiser

TEAMS in this weekend's Relay for Life are on track to raise a record amount for the Cancer Council.

So far the teams have raised more than $75,000, with expectations the event should hit its target of $165,000.

Among the crews lapping the Coffs Coast Sport and Leisure Park this Saturday and Sunday will be staff from the Bendigo Bank, which is participating for the fourth consecu- tive year.

Captained by Libby Beech, the 10-strong team of branch staff has pledged to raise $2000. Their fundraising efforts include a Bunnings barbecue and raffles, and they will hold a final fundraiser movie night on Wednesday, June 5, for the local premiere of The Great Gatsby. The movie starts at 7pm sharp, with light refreshments from 6pm. For tickets, phone Bendigo Bank Coffs Harbour on 6652 5199.

"We at Bendigo Bank Coffs Harbour branch are very community focused and support various community events," Ms Beech said.

"Individually we have all been, or known someone that has been, affected by cancer and feel strong about supporting this cause.

"Until a cure is found, we still have to keep raising awareness and raise funds to assist in finding a cure for cancer and supporting local families affected by cancer," she said.

"It is also a great community event that brings people together."

It is not too late for register for Relay for Life. You can just turn up on the day, pay $20 and you can start walking. Call Fiona at the Cancer Council on 6659 8400 for further information.
