Teachers to return to Aurukun

THE 16 teachers who were evacuated from the troubled far north Queensland town of Aurukun, last month, have agreed to go back to work when their school returns in July.

The Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy was shut down following two attacks in two weeks on principal Scott Fatnowa - since then someone has been filling in his role, 9 News reports.

Queensland Teachers' Union president Kevin Bates told Channel 9 all teachers had agreed, at a meeting last week, to return when the school reopens on July 11 after discussing safety issues with the Department of Education.
