Tayla back as face of Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival
FOUR years after her she first walked the catwalk at the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival, Tayla Spier is back as the face of the event.
The19-year-old international model has been announced as this year's Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival model ambassador.
Ms Spier said she was pleased to represent an event which had been a huge influence on her career.
"This Fashion festival really means a lot to me. It was my first ever catwalk.... since then, a world of opportunity has opened for me."
Ms Spier, of Mountain Creek, was signed with Vivien's model management in the months after the festival.
She has since modelled in Greece and Singapore, walking in the Athens and Singapore fashion weeks.
Ms Spier remembers being nervous the first time she took to the catwalk and is looking forward to helping other young models at the festival get over their butterflies.
She said the event was a great learning experience for anyone wanting to get involved in the fashion industry.
"There's so many lovely people working at the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival and you get to spend a few days with each other and you learn from each other - we all have different talents."
Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival director Jacinta Richmond said she was proud the event had been a launching ground for Ms Spier.
"We are quite privileged on the Coast. We've got some beautiful natural talent," she said.
"Because we don't do our castings through agencies, we get to meet these amazing girls who go on to travel the world."
Ms Richmond said it had been difficult to choose just one model ambassador from the shortlist of 10 models.
"It was a really hard call this year. The calibre that put themselves forward for consideration was really incredible," she said.
Ms Richmond said the decision had finally come down to two finalists and the yet-to-be announced runner-up would also have an important role in the festival.
The festival, a showcase for local up-and-coming designers as well as industry leaders, will be held at the Events Centre, Caloundra, on October 22.
The date is now locked into Ms Spier's diary but she is likely to head off before then.
She has been asked to return to Singapore for another three month contract and her signs are set on working in some of the world's most famous fashion hot spots.
"In the future, my hopes are to go and model in Hong Kong and Milan."
