SOME of the best-kept family secrets, those famous home-baked recipes handed down the generations and perfected over the decades, have always surfaced at country shows.
From passionfruit slice, rosemary lamb cutlets, grandma's famous relishes to mouth-watering cakes.
Country shows on the Coffs Coast have this year again produced some award-winning recipes, with a host of locals featuring in the newly released ASC Country Shows cookbook series.
"This is the third book in the ASC Country Shows cookbook series," Coffs Harbour Show Society secretary Margo Caba said.
"It contains great wholesome food, salt of the earth recipes that the featured people have been serving up to their families for decades."
The book features Lyn Sjolander's rosemary lamb cutlets from the Coffs Harbour and Bellingen shows, Barbara Carter's family-sized plum pudding from the Dorrigo Show, May Harries' lemon meringue cream dessert from the Macksville Show, Cassandra Goodworth's mango mousse from the Bellingen and Coffs Harbour shows, Maxine Keys' rhubarb cake from the Bellingen Show, Leanne Sinclair's jam drops from the Dorrigo Show, Kae Anforth's passion mallow slice from the Bellingen Show, and Vicki Lawrence's apple and date chutney from the Dorrigo Show.
The hardcover book features the best family recipes from exhibitions in 195 country shows across New South Wales. It costs $35 and can be purchased from Caba's Drapery and Medi Optics at Toormina Gardens.
