Tanks for sale after COVID-19 blows up dream

A TOY tank at the age of six sparked a passion and eventually a career for Tim Wood but even the sturdiest of vehicles couldn't survive the financial hit of the coronavirus.

The Australian BMX legend and now owner and founder of six-year-old business Tank Ride, at Tamborine, is having to sell 15 of his tanks due to tough times.

"One of my goals in life was to own an army tank and it was a bit of a jest at the start, but I pursued the dream and bought a tank, I fell in love and haven't looked back," Mr Wood said.

The business offers live tank tours where you can sit inside the aged monsters while learning about their history at the same time.

Mr Wood learnt to restore the historic machines himself with one that can travel up to 80km/h.

"When I am taking people through a guided tour there's nothing else in the world I'm thinking of, I just love it."

But, the pinch of a global pandemic has put Mr Wood in a place where it's either his house or the tanks, so while his three boys are devastated to see them go, it was a decision that had to be made. "

I've just got nothing left, I have put everything into this and I'm not willing to lose our house as well."

Mr Wood has 25 tanks in his interactive museum, he hopes to sell the 15 tanks for more than $2 million.
