Talks on new telco towers

OPTUS is considering nine sites on the Coffs Coast for new mobile phone towers.

The telco held a briefing with Coffs Harbour City Council this week to discuss their mobile network investment plans throughout the region.

It comes after strong community opposition to a proposed tower at Mullaway that Optus later announced it would not progress.

An Optus spokesman confirmed the proposed sites in the Coffs Harbour local government area included Sapphire Beach, Southern Cross University, Boambee and Sawtell.

Cr Sally Townley said she had also been approached by residents concerned over the proposed tower at Maccues Rd at Moonee Beach.

An Optus spokesman said the telco "was committed to consulting with the community when we're examining new sites for our mobile infrastructure... as we work to expand and improve our coverage across the region."
