Talk about the blues

LOOK after your mind today at the Coffs City Library.

As part of Drug Action Week, there will be a special talk held at the library focusing on depression.

“It’s important to remember that one in four people will suffer depression at some time in their life,” library manager Enzo Accadia said.

“There is still a lot of stigma around mental health issues but our speakers want to dispel this and help people get the information they are looking for.”

With a key theme of “looking after your mind”, guest speakers at the library event will be Dr Jo Walker, a general practitioner at The Women’s Health Centre and the Headspace Youth Clinic, Yvonne Quadros, the Co-ordinator of the Coffs Harbour Carers Mental Health Support Group, and Ruth Minkov, who will talk about her experience with depression as an adolescent.

Dr Walker’s focus will be on supplying practical information about what depression is, the range of treatments, both medical and non-medical which are available to sufferers, particularly on the Coffs Coast.

For instance, many people are unaware that some psychology services are available for free through Medicare.

More than 50 people have already signed up for the event but there are plenty of spaces still available. Refreshments will be available.

The event starts at 5.30pm and bookings are welcome. Call 6648 4900 for more information or bookings.
