Taking in the Park Beach views
THE next phase of beautification at Park Beach is under way, capitalising on the beachfront views surrounding the Coffs Harbour Surf Life Saving Club.
From Christmas locals and tourists will enjoy panoramic views of Coffs Harbour's most popular beach from a viewing platform that's equally designed to help lifesavers with safety patrols.
The new platform is part of a $275,800 plan that will also provide an equal access ramp from the beach carpark to public amenities and the main surf club entrance.
Inspecting the ground work that's been laid, Coffs Harbour mayor Denise Knight said the new attraction is just the start of a wider Park Beach beautification scheme.
"The idea is to beautify this whole area because this area is one of our tourist hubs," Cr Knight said.
"Being able to stop and admire the view at a spot like Park Beach is one of life's little luxuries.
Stage one of works, incorporating the new deck and ramp, is jointly funded by Coffs Harbour City Council and Sport and Recreation's Surf Club Facilities Program.
Terry Maher of the surf club said the works will improve the beachfront and enhance public safety.
"Providing additional facilities to cater for the needs of people with disabilities is a real win for both club patrons and the broader community," Mr Maher said.
Stage two of the project to start next year will include showers and amenities, improved landscaping, footpaths and seating, along with a new road access for rescue vehicle access.
This latest project follows the construction of popular viewing platforms at Diggers Beach and off the carpark opposite the Park Beach Holiday Park.
