Take a shine to classics

THERE’LL be a celebration of all things Chrysler in Mackay tomorrow.

It’s a feast for the eyes if you love taking in the gleaming lines of this classic make of car.

The third annual Mopars in Mackay All Chrysler Car Show is on at the Aero Club, Casey Ave, between 9am and 2pm and event organiser Carey Regan said it was shaping as the biggest.

From Valiant Chargers to the new Chrysler 300C sedan, 60 cars have already been pre-registered and Mr Regan anticipates more will be on show on the day.

“We always get a heap of people that just turn up on the day,” he said.

River City Auto will display some of the newer models, Mr Regan said.

“It’s $25 per car to enter (the show). Admission for the general public is $5.”

Two of big drawcards are a 1958 Desoto and an authentic Dukes of Hazard ‘General Lee’ Dodge Charger, which is owned by a Mackay man, Mr Regan said.

“It’s one that they used in one of the shows... has all the paper work,” he said.

As well as “a heap of very nice motor cars” visitors to the show will find a Chrysler-only swap meet, stalls selling accessories and food and drink.

After the show, we go for a highway cruise out to The Leap and back,” Mr Regan said.

On Saturday night awards will be presented to car owners in various award categories including judge’s choice, people’s choice, best new, best old, best restoration and best original.
