Influencer busted rigging Instagram competitions

A BLOGGER has been forced to apologise after it emerged that she had rigged two competitions so that people close to her won the prizes.

Terrie McEvoy admitted that she gave two pieces of jewellery to her best friend and to her brother's girlfriend after sponsored giveaways on her blog in 2015.

The 26-year-old, who now works as a nurse in Sydney, was called out online by a mysterious online account called @Bulls**tcallerouter.

Terrie, who is one of the biggest social media stars in her birth place, Ireland, later posted on Instagram her side of events - and begged her critics to "try and be nice, I'm a person too."

Last Tuesday she told her 116,000 followers: "I picked my brothers girlfriend and a close friend at the time to win a competition for a bracelet in 2015.

"Approx 100 people entered each one ... I think I knew about 30 of the people that entered at the time ... I had a small following BUT, I know that's not an excuse.

"I 100% should have picked somebody I didn't know and I appreciate why people were so angry, I TOTALLY understand.

The truth emerged after the account posted screenshots that showed Terrie announcing each winner - and other posts where she revealed that people with the same social media handles were close friends of hers.

People were furious, and the competition partner, Tower Jewellers were quick to distance themselves from the scandal.

They said: "We deeply apologies for any disloyalty that may have been portrayed during the course of our collaborations and we trust Terrie can clear this up."

The mysterious Instagram account shared evidence that Terrie knew the winners.

Their website currently features a range designed and modelled by Terrie, with pieces costing between £60 ($104) for some plain gold earrings to £227 ($396) for a gold and ruby ring.

There are also necklaces priced between £148 ($258) and £197 ($343).

A recent post by the brand promoting the range was filled with angry comments from members of the public.

One wrote: "Nice way to do business sorry damage your reputation by working with a liar & a cheat."

Another said: "It's false advertising, misleading thousands of people and she's only sorry she got caught ... I hope they cut all ties with her and save their business from the mess."

In her lengthy apology, Terrie added that she had only cheated people as she was trying to do the right thing.

She continued: "I just want people to know that at the time I had my reasons to pick these two particular girls and my heart was in the right place.

Terrie vowed to quit social media, but has since returned to document her latest holiday.

"I think I've learned over the last few years, that sometimes you can't always listen to your heart you have to let your brain do the work.

"But you know what? I wish I could, but I just can't change the past it was almost 3 years ago.

"I've learned, I've apologised, I've cried my tears, and absolutely beat myself up over it ... but again ... I CAN'T do anything about the past."

Terrie gave her reasons for the deception to her 116,000 fans.

She then quoted the monkey from the Lion King, adding: "As Rafiki from the Lion King says 'You can either run from it, or learn from it' - and I choose to learn."

Terrie finished off her statement by telling her followers that she would be taking a break from social media until she got her head straight.

She has since returned to Instagram to document her holiday.
