Wins to the Queensland Firebirds and New South Wales Swifts has set up a mouth-watering ANZ Championship grand final rematch this weekend.
The Firebirds were not at their best in a 58-46 win over the Thunderbirds in Adelaide, but the premiers still walked away with a new competition record of 17 successive wins, which they took away from the hosts.
The win may have come at a cost for Queensland though, with goal-shooter Romelda Aiken (37 goals from 46 attempts) appearing distraught while receiving treatment after the game. Teammate Caitlyn Nevins' impressive season continued with 15 goal assists from wing attack.
The Swifts also made it four-straight wins this season, downing the West Coast Fever 63-52 in Perth.
The clash lived up to its pre-match billing in delivering a high octane, close tussle during the first half, the hosts up 29-28 at the main break. But the NSW team ran rampant in the second half, winning that 35-23.
It was the fifth win for the Swifts in their past six meetings with the Fever.
The visitors' mid-court of Kimberlee Green (17 goal assists) and Paige Hadley (10 goal assists) produced some quick transitional play in attack, while presenting a rock-solid wall in defence.
In the circle, the accuracy of shooter Caitlin Thwaites (39/45) saw her dominate the Fever defence.
Also yesterday, the Southern Steel triumphed 67-54 over the Central Pulse in Invercargill.
