Swells batter beaches

HUGE swells and high winds battering the Coffs Coast this week has seen a number of beaches closed as lifeguards urge everyone to play it safe.

Sawtell Beach, Diggers Beach and Woolgoolga Beach were open yesterday, but with tight restrictions on their use. And Park Beach was closed.

“This very intense low pressure system off the east coast is pushing up large swells which are making the beaches very dangerous,” said Senior Lifeguard Greg Hackfath.

“There are also the strong southerly winds to contend with.

“We are urging people to make sure they only visit the patrolled beaches at Sawtell, Woolgoolga, Diggers and Park Beach.”
