Swans register first win

THE Coffs Swans registered their first win in the AFL North Coast competition this season with a gutsy two-goal win at Fitzroy Oval.

Nambucca started well, kicking accurately to open up a handy lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Swans pegged back the gap heading into half-time with Shannon Burow and Dave Colman active across the centre.

With a sniff of victory in their nostrils, the red and whites applied further pressure after the main break with Sam Turner lively up forward kicking four goals. Aaron Clarke matched Turner’s contribution up the other end in another eye-catching display that would have pleased representative coach Peter Chadwick who was in attendance.

In an even final term it was a relieved Swans’ unit who held on despite some nervous moments ahead of their trip south to face the resurgent Port Macquarie next week.
