ELITE AFL action is set to return to Coffs Harbour in March.
This morning the AFL announced the fixture for the NAB Challenge pre-season matches and C.ex Coffs International Stadium will play host to a clash under lights between Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions on Friday, March 6.
In an additional boost for Coffs Harbour, the match will be televised live across the nation to Foxtel subscribers on the FOX Footy channel.
It's a welcome return for top-level AFL to the stadium which was last seen here in 2011 when a crowd of 4873 watched St Kilda take on Sydney.
The Sydney Swans have also confirmed that they will be yet again running their AFL Community Camps in Coffs Harbour in early 2015 and 2016.
Sydney Swans Chief Executive, Andrew Ireland, said the club enjoyed strong links to the Coffs Harbour community.
"The Swans have always enjoyed a strong connection with the Coffs Harbour community and through our QBE Sydney Swans Coffs Harbour Academy, our pre-season training and community camps and now another NAB Challenge match in the city, that connection only grows stronger," Ireland said.
"The facility at C.ex Coffs International Stadium is outstanding and the team has enjoyed spending an important part of their pre-season program utilising the Stadium during the camps over the last two seasons.
"The NAB Challenge series is an important part of our preparation for the 2015 season and we really look forward to taking on the Brisbane Lions in front of a strong home crowd."
The AFL (NSW/ACT) State Operating and Major Projects Manager, Joseph La Posta, said it's fantastic news two great AFL teams will be playing at the Stadium.
"We're thrilled to welcome elite level AFL back to the Coffs Coast, and we couldn't have asked for two better teams," La Posta said.
"This announcement is certain to provide a fantastic boost for the AFL North Coast competition."
Tickets will go on sale in early 2015.
