Swadling well placed at titles

WHEN it comes to the heat of competition that this weekend’s North Coast Regional Titles produces, there are few better placed to handle it than Alex Swadling.

Being a highly experienced campaigner on the Pro Junior circuit, the Diggers Beach surfer will be leading the charge for the local crew today and tomorrow at Sawtell in the Open Men’s division.

Swadling, along with plenty of other locals, will be hoping their knowledge of the breaks around Sawtell will give them a huge advantage as they aim to take a title from a competition that has been used previously as a pathway to the NSW, Australian and World titles.

There’s no doubting that this event is the starting point for the region’s top surfers.

Former ASP surfers Trent Munro, Lee Winkler and Samantha Cornish all started their careers in this event.

Swadling won’t have it all his own way this weekend though.

Defending champ Isaac Van Anen is looking to take the title out for a third consecutive year while former World Grommet champion Jye Gofton, who now lives on the North Coast will make his debut in this event.

Gofton’s presence is sure to add an extra dimension to the event.

With good waves predicted for the weekend, watch these guys go for broke.
