UPDATE: COFFS Harbour Fire and Rescue Station Officer Nat LaMacchia said the contents of the suspicious package found at the hospital remain unknown.

He said police were currently investigating the package.

Mr LaMacchia said people who had come in contact with the package had been isolated as a precautionary measure but had since been released.

He said the area the package had been found had been disinfected and made safe.

ORIGINAL: PEOPLE were stopped from entering an administration building at the Coffs Harbour Base Hospital after a suspicious package was found.

Police, NSW Fire and Rescue and HAZMAT crews were called to the scene.

A NSW Fire and Rescue Media spokesman said an unopened package was handed to police.

The area was given the all clear at 2.41pm.
