Surprise bath birth

EMMERSEN Sky Mannix was welcomed into the world from the bottom of the family bathtub on Tuesday morning and mum Chloe McDermott couldn't have been more relaxed.

Dad Daniel Mannix had taken his fiancee to the hospital about 7.30am, but the nervous couple were told the baby was still possibly a day away and were sent home as Miss McDermott's contractions were too far apart.

Relaxing in the tub just two hours later, Miss McDermott had no idea nature would take its path so quickly.

"I had a few contractions and then it felt like something burst," she said.

"I realised my water had broken and then I just had this weird feeling it was happening.

"Within a minute Dan had rung the ambulance and my Dad came in to help me and I pushed twice and she slid down the bottom of the bath."

Miss McDermott said she had felt content knowing the birth would be natural.

"In the days coming you know the pain level that's coming, so it almost haunts you and makes you very frustrated," she said.

"We always wanted it to be natural."

The couple said they now have their "sun and sky" as the name Laine means light of the sun.
