Surfing NSW on the search for best of Coffs groms

SURFING NSW is on a mission to discover the state's best junior wave riders by hosting a serious of Talent Identification Camps.

Set to hit Coffs Harbour on August 17-18, the camps are aimed at improving the standard of NSW Surfing talent and providing elite coaching in regional areas.

The camps also act as an opportunity for Surfing NSW to identify junior talent to help with the selection process for Surfing Australia HPC Camps, Elite State Camps and Team NSW selection for 2014.

Each day, the camps will focus on contest strategies, how to get the most out of a heat, contest preparation and individual technique.

"This year's ambition is to identify talent across a range of NSW zones," Surfing NSW State Coaching Director Blake Johnson said.

"We'll work with coaches and Regional Directors within each zone to help isolate talent that could potentially represent NSW at the 2014 Australian Titles and also undergo further elite coaching at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.

"Sometimes one of the best surfers can simply have a bad heat and as a result miss out on qualifying for NSW or Australian Titles.

"We hope these camps will provide myself and other coaches, within the Surfing NSW network, the opportunity to isolate those kids."
