Surf Festival gets the backing of a proud local

BCU is backing one of the biggest sporting events in Coffs Harbour by becoming the naming rights sponsor of the Australian Surf Festival.

More than 500 surfers from around Australia will contest the two-week surfing showpiece from July 31-August 17.

"We're proud to be supporting Surfing Australia in bringing the 2015 Australian Surfing Festival to Coffs Harbour," BCU's Chief Executive Lyndon Kingston said.

"Being a local financial institution, we're passionate about our community, and events like this bring competitors and spectators to our region which contributes to our economy while also promoting a healthy lifestyle."

In addition to naming rights, BCU will be providing a $100 bank account for the #bcumoneyturn, which will be awarded daily to the surfer who executes the biggest turn as determined by the judges. BCU also has support rights to Indigenous Surfing Day, held during the festival.

The BCU Australian Surf Festival will see National titles decided in Open Surf Masters, Longboard, Logger and Bodyboard divisions.

As a brand ambassador for the event sponsor, Emerald Beach surfer Harley Ingleby shared the BCU logo with the world when he claimed the second of his two world titles.

"It's been great to have BCU's support on a personal level over the last couple of years but to see them step up and support longboarding and other surf disciplines at the National level is really exciting," Ingleby said.

"To win a National Title is the most prestigious event you can win in Australia and it's awesome to have the upcoming event in my backyard."

The official opening ceremony will be held on July 31 at the Hoey Moey.
