MATT Brabham will make his debut at the Bathurst 1000, slotting in as co-driver for Lee Holdsworth at Preston Hire Racing for Supercars' Pirtek Enduro Cup.
The grandson of late Formula 1 great Sir Jack Brabham and son of Le Mans 24 Hours and Bathurst 1000 winner Geoff, 23-year-old Matt will take part in an extensive testing and ride-day program ahead of the three-race endurance season.
"I have been fortunate to have some terrific days in my motorsport career and this is certainly right up there," Brabham said.
"Supercars is obviously one of the world's leading categories and I am tremendously grateful for the opportunity that Charlie (Schwerkolt, team boss) and Markus (Preston, Preston Hire chief) have provided me.
"The one-off ride last year (in Perth) gave me a small taste of what Supercars is about and I can't wait to get out there."
Brabham cut his first racing laps at Mount Panorama just over a week ago in the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, winning his class in the GT4-spec BMW alongside fellow next-gen racer Aaron Seton and two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Tony Longhurst.
"I had my first experience at Mt Panorama last weekend in the 12-hour and to know that the next time I will be heading back there will be in a Supercar is pretty cool," Brabham said.
"Lee is a first-class operator and has always been good to me and I am sure we will complement each other.
"The current landscape means that it is difficult to secure a solid drive without taking a cheque with you.
"So to be provided an opportunity like this and to be paid as a professional driver is a position that I obviously appreciate and will be protecting by doing the best job I can possibly do in and out of the car.
"While the Indy 500 will be there each year, my focus now is doing the best possible job in Supercars for Charlie and the Preston Hire Racing team.
"Patience and persistence are two of the main attributes you need in this business and this deal is proof of that, but it is important to keep moving forward."
Brabham will dovetail the Supercars program with a season in the Stadium Super Trucks series, including their support round at the Adelaide 500 on March 1-4.
