Sunrise pretended co-host Katy Perry was 'live'
SUNRISE promised superstar Katy Perry would co-host the Channel 7 breakfast program today but she was a no-show until half way through the segment - and she wasn't live.
Host Samantha Armytage was quick to tell viewers they gave the Roar singer, 32, a "sleep in" despite the segment being prerecorded on Saturday.
"We don't want her to get up in the dark," Armytage told viewers this morning.
"She'll be in at half past 7 this morning."
But Perry isn't appearing live on Sunrise - she was spotted leaving the country at Sydney Airport last night after Channel Nine was also caught out attempting to promote her performance on The Voice as live.
"Katy Perry prerecorded her appearance on Sunrise on Saturday - I was there," an insider told Confidential today.
The Sunrise panel were wearing the same outfits while they introduced Perry into their studios.
Screaming fans were chanting her name outside the Channel 7 studios at Martin Place, Sydney. Social media also lit up on Saturday showing Perry at the studio recording her Sunrise guest appearance.
"I'm ready to co-host - I've never done this before but I'm ready to go!" she said after Armytage crossed to David Koch, who was outside of her changeroom.
Perry also uploaded parts of Sunrise's segment on her Instagram Stories on Saturday.
Perry, who wore a matching silver skirt and top, revealed her mother wanted to be an anchor and that she had never co-hosted a news program.
"She wanted to be like Barbara Walters," she added on the show.
"I am going to be an America Idol judge because I think America Idol actually still makes dreams come true and if I could help facilitate some people with their dreams just like other people have helped me, I think I'd be paying it forward.
Perry said it was important to not "take life so seriously."
"(My hair) doesn't have to be long to be feminine," she said.
"I think it's a redefining for myself the meaning of what's beautiful."
The pop star wrote on Instagram overnight "jet lag's got me like" with a picture of herself lying on the Opera House stairs yesterday.
