Sunday trading just in time for Christmas
SOUTH Burnett shoppers will have more time to get their Christmas shopping done this festive season.
Kingaroy Shoppingworld centre manager Chris O'Rourke said the centre would open every Sunday in December from this Sunday, December 3, right up until Christmas Eve, December 24.
Mr O'Rourke said this was the first time the centre had done this.
"Basically the (parliament) made a decision earlier this year about regional trading hours,” he said.
"The trade-off for that allows regional areas that don't have Sunday trade to have a Sunday trade period before Christmas.”
Mr O'Rourke said most stores including Woolworths, Big W, Blooms and Best and Less would be open.
"As well as handful of the variety stores,” he said.
"So restaurants, cafes, clothes shops, newsagents and the big shops will be open.”
Mr O'Rourke said it was an opportunity for customers to shop local.
"It will keep customers local, support local shops going on,” he said.
"It will be interesting to see how it pans out across the four Sundays.
"The shops that definitely won't be open will be the banks and the post office.”
Shoppingworld has previously opened for two Sundays leading up to Christmas, but not for the whole of December.
Woolworths will also open until midnight from December 18 to 23.
The Little Butcher owner Clinton Stretton said his shop wouldn't open on the first trading Sunday but would open the following Sunday, December 10.
"It's going to be a massive trial,” he said.
"Last year we only opened the Sunday before Christmas so it's going to be very interesting, we'll see how much foot traffic is around. It's going to be a massive experiment, no one is too sure yet.
"It might not be massive for a butcher shop, but time's going to tell me that.”
The Kingaroy Aldi store on Youngman St will also open on Sundays across December. The store will have its first Sunday trading day on December 3 and last Sunday trading day on Christmas Eve. It will be open from 9am to 6pm.
