Sunday morning cross country run

THE action was fast and furious on the roads around Heritage Park estate on Sunday morning but it was people power rather than horse power involved for the MNC Cross Country run.

First up teenager Levi Sands sped over the two-kilometre course in a time of six minutes 43 seconds to lead in the more usual suspects, Daniel Campbell who finished second again and George Carpenter. Both youngsters could be well pleased with their respective times of 7.07 and 7.18.

The first female to finish over the short course was Emily Malouf who crossed for third outright in a time of 7.10. Tenielle Stubbs stepped back from her 10-kilometre exertions to finish 10 seconds further back to be the runner-up while Ashley Van Den Boogaard was third.

Matthew Berrington was the stand-out in the five kilometre event, winning by nearly two minutes after completing the course in 18 minutes 34 seconds.

Cris Robb held off Jeff O’Brien for second, recording 20.20 to O’Brien’s 20.51. Leila Walker led in the ladies in a time of 22.03 a step or two ahead of Heather Kitching with Lily Smyth a mere second away in third.

The 10-kilometre race saw a real tussle between the three male place-getters with all three going under 37 minutes. Tony Woolford claimed the victory.

Sione George held off Lyn Fulton for the win in the women’s race by 32 seconds in a time of 46.49.
