Submissions for Bellingen coastal management open Wednesday
IN PARTNERSHIP with the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, Bellingen Shire Council is developing a Zone Management Plan that focuses on the open coast.
So far the process has included stakeholder and community consultation, and a community survey and workshop with the environment and sustainability committee to prioritise management options.
The draft Bellingen Coastal Zone Management Study (CZMS) has been prepared and council is now seeking community comment and feedback in an engagement period beginning this Wednesday and running until July 23.
Once adopted, the management plan will form the basis for funding applications to improve the condition of beaches including pedestrian and vehicular access points to prevent erosion and damage, to stabilising dune vegetation and habitat management.
The study can be found on council's website at bellingen.nsw.gov.au or a hard copy can be viewed at the Bellingen Administration Centre, the Dorrigo, Bellingen and Urunga Libraries and the Mylestom store.
Submissions can be lodged by email or written form.
It should be noted that submissions are publicly available documents and persons wishing that information about them not be released should specify the reasons for the request at the time of lodging.
