Students' band together for fest

BELIEVE it or not this motley mob of lounge lizards could be music’s next big thing.

Topping the on-line charts for school bands across Australia is local group This World Around Us.

The MySchoolAct competition was designed for high school students with a passion for the music industry.

This World Around Us is a mixture of Year 9, 10 and 11 students Dylan Smith (lead vocals) and Paul Hartsuyker (bass/vocals) from John Paul College, Alex Tournier (lead guitar/vocals) and Jake Knight (drums/piano) from Orara High School and Nathan Holzhauser (guitar/vocals) who is a former Orara student.

Winners from each state will play their respective Big Day Out 2012 events and the top 10 will compete for a recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment to the value of $50,000.

Each entry is scored on a combination of factors including the size of their fan base and the level of interaction on their profile page (Facebook likes, votes, comments, etc).

The local lads have attracted 115,205 points in the competition, with 692 views and 868 comments as of yesterday.
