Strong winds as storms march across Sunshine Coast

HEAVY rain and lightning have forced the abandonment of play at Beerwah Golf Club as two sets of storms zero in on the Sunshine Coast.

The second line of storm activity was angling northward and was likely to push past Tewantin.

The Bureau of Meteorology had predicted the chance of showers and thunderstorms today but said there was not much rain in it.

To date Elimbah has had eight millimetres, Woodford three millimetres and Wamuran two.

Forecaster Michael Gray said the storms were in line with expectations.

Winds to 40km/h have been recorded at Sunshine Coast Airport this afternoon but they were not expected to increase to speeds where they would be considered damaging.
