Strong interest in dance HSC

IT'S already the beginning of the end for some Coffs Coast students, after their Higher School Certificate examinations began last week.

Practical Dance exams kicked off the examination period last Monday, with four students from Coffs Harbour Senior College and two from Macksville High warming up for their big exams.

Acting NSW Minister for Education and Training John Hatzistergos said more than 600 students would take part in the dance exams across the State, and regional students made up a big part of that.

“There is a strong interest in the HSC dance course in regional areas of the State with 240 of the 696 students - more than one-third - residing in regional NSW,” he said.

Practical Dance students are marked upon their solo performance and choreography, and are to answer questions about their performance afterward.

More students will begin to see the fruits of their hard work in the coming weeks, with practical HSC exams for Drama, Music and Language beginning, and projects and major works for Society and Culture, Textiles and Design, Industrial Technology, Drama, English Extension 2, Design and Technology, Visual Arts, Music and Agriculture all due for marking.

Written exams will begin on October 16 with Business Studies and some Languages.

The finish date for the exams is planned for November 13.
