Saints strong favourites

THE Saints will be heavily favoured to register a first-up win against last season’s wooden-spooners, Nambucca Valley.

The blend of youth and experience within Sawtell’s line-up is the best in the competition.

Mark Couzens and Les Cohen form the basis of a strong leadership group that will be licking their lips at the prospect of fielding Northern Heat stars, Elliott Schmidt, Jack Gillingham, and this year, Simon Taylor.

Ben Hooke has been a prolific goal-kicker in recent years and will be a strong target against the Lions who will look to slow down the ball movement out of the centre.

Monty Schmidt has courage beyond his years, but even with the return of a number of former players, Nambucca will find it hard to draw even in Sawtell’s first match at Richardson Park in a year-and-a-half.
