Man run over, killed during violent brawl in Kingaroy

UPDATE 4pm

CRIME scene investigators are finishing their examination and Gladys and Baron Sts are expected to be reopened to the public about 4.30pm.

Senior Sergeant Duane Frank said more statements have been taken but it would be some time before the interviews were finished and compared.

"It will all culminate with the completion of the investigation in due course and we will be reporting to the coroner," he said.

UPDATE 2.15pm

FORENSIC officers have arrived on Gladys St to begin their investigation into the death of a 22-year-old Kingaroy man overnight.

The officers are examining the man's body, which remains where he died about 2am when he was run over during a brawl.

The specialist officers will deploy a drone to gather aerial photographs as part of their evidence in and around the street.

An evidence marker has been placed in the grassland adjacent to Baron St, behind the soccer fields, where it is thought the fight broke out some time before the man's death.

EARLIER

POLICE have cordoned off a suburban Kingaroy street after a man was killed during a brawl overnight.

The 22-year-old Kingaroy man was run over about 2am on Gladys St and died at the scene.

Kingaroy Police Senior Sergeant Duane Frank said 10-15 people in two groups were involved in a fight that broke out on Baron St, behind the soccer fields.

"One of the groups was in a vehicle," he said.

"At this stage it appears the vehicle has been set upon by the other group of people.

"They were banging, punching the vehicle, making efforts to assault those inside the car."

The victim was a passenger in the car, but he got out of and took the fight to the street.

Snr Sgt Frank said the car's driver reversed while the vehicle was surrounded.

"The vehicle has struck the 22-year old man ... the man has been run over," he said.

Officers have secured the crime scene while forensic officers travel from Brisbane to examine the street and the man's body.

The vehicle has been seized and police have begun interviewing witnesses and those involved in the incident.

Snr Sgt Frank said there had been an ongoing conflict between the two groups of people aged in their early twenties.

"The majority of people involved in this incident are known to police," he said.
