Bowlers focus on district champs

AFTER Sawtell secured the grade seven district pennant with a win over Nambucca Heads and a place in the zone final, the Mid North Coast men’s bowls focus now shifts to district championships at Port Panthers on Sunday.

Places at the State knockout championships will be up for grabs in the Zone 14 finals in singles, pairs, triples and fours as the best from the Mid North Coast take on their Lower North Coast counterparts.

Cory Daley from Park Beach continues the campaign which previously won him a State singles title when he takes on Peter Taylor from Kempsey Heights.

With Park Beach returning to Port Panthers for the Zone 14 play-off against Kempsey Heights the following Sunday, these two players will see plenty of each other over the next week.

In the open pairs championship, Ex-Services duo, Rod Hiscock and Kent Price face a challenge from Ken Paulsen and Bryce Stewart of Port City.

Sawtell’s Neil Davidson, Paul Bartholomew and Greg Cridge will represent Mid North Coast in the triples against Keith Martin,

Michael Burgess and Greg Brims (Westport).

In the senior division, Paul Parramore from Sawtell will battle out the singles with Wauchope’s Robert Waterhouse.

In the pairs, Park Beach representatives Wayne Rowbottom and Col Pritchard take on Robert Dykes and Laurie Dodd from Kempsey Heights.

Ern Hunter from Nambucca Heads will meet Greg Darcy from Kew in the president’s reserve singles while the president’s reserve pairs see Steven Ttooulou and Ken Sharkey (Urunga) playing Port City’s John Breen and Robert Langham. Due to players qualifying in two different competitions, the open fours will be decided in the afternoon with call of the cards at 1pm.

The solid Park Beach combination of Wayne Rowbottom, Terry Kadwell, Don Wood and Col Pritchard take on the Westport team of Jeff Fathers, Peter Taylor, Greg Brims and Shane Globits.
