EACH year, thousands of feet pound pavements, beaches, ovals and footpaths up and down the Coffs Coast, running and walking for fitness or pleasure.
While the owners of some of those feet easily find time to clock up kilometres in preparation for the annual Coffs Harbour Running Festival on September 7, others seem to find it's almost impossible to fit a jog into their daily schedule and routine.
Co-sponsor of the Running Festival's 3km event, Stuart McKenzie of The Athletes Foot, says many people find the push-pull of work and family commitments a real hindrance to personal health and fitness.
"Physical activity is such an important part of living a healthy lifestyle," Stuart said. "Still, some people struggle to find time for themselves"
Stuart says setting achievable goals and getting organised are two small things most people can do to make it easier to exercise.
"We see lots of dedicated runners come through our store," he said.
"Something many of them have in common is the ability to forward plan.
"This can involve shopping for and preparing meals in advance, setting out clothes for the next day the night before, or anything else that can be done to make it easier to get up in the morning for a quick run.
"Having a goal to strive towards can also help.
"So this month we are encouraging people sign up for the Coffs Running Festival as a way of keeping themselves motivated.
"The Coffs Running Festival is a brilliant local event that inspires many to don the running shoes and exercise in the name of local charities.
"We fit shoes for every type of active person, from children through to walkers, weekend runners and elite athletes, and we're proud to support such a healthy community event."
