Starring in criterium series
THE McDonald’s/NAB/Rainbow Cycles team ventured to the sunny shores of Byron Bay last weekend to compete in the fourth round of the McDonald’s Northern Region Criterium Series.
It was only the third race that the boys have competed in as a team but they raced as one, dominating the event.
Aaron O’Grady lit up the action from the gun forcing riders from other towns on to the defensive.
It stayed that way as every rider in the team rode hard to soften up the competition.
Dan Alcock and Nathan Chiswell got a good gap on the field and looked like hanging on to the win but were pulled back with a handful of laps remaining.
Chris Jahnz and Aaron O’Grady put in some huge turns at this point.
Reece Edwards then snuck off the front just at the right moment in the last lap, holding off the field to win.
Dan Alcock secured second with a well timed run to the line and Nathan Chiswell ran third after sprinting for the win for the last three laps.
Great result from the Team and especially Reece Edwards for the win. After this result Dan and Nathan from the team are leading the series pointscore and with two rounds to go.
Coming up in March are the remaining two rounds, Inverell and Armidale. After these rounds the team is jetting to Tasmania for the National series tour of the Mersey Valley. Stay Posted as we fly our sponsors and Coffs Harbour flag around the country side.
Other Coffs Harbour riders featured prominently in the B,C and D grade events.
Adrien Thompson and Dave Munro put in a very solid ride in B grade with Dave claiming the sprint prime and second place.
Grant Howard raced in C grade and unleashed his track sprint to claim second at the finish. And lastly rising talent Alex Beadie smashed the D grade field for the win, whenever this reporter saw Alex during the race he was on the front dictating the pace.
The weekend was a roaring success for the Coffs Harbour riders, not only did they dominte the racing but it was a great team building exercise for the McDonalds/NAB/Rainbow riders.
Bring on the next round.
