Man stabbed in Grafton park

POLICE were called to a stabbing at Alex Bell Park behind the Australian Hotel bottle shop in South Grafton yesterday afternoon.

The offender, described as an Aboriginal man aged about 30 and possibly from Lismore, fled the scene but was apprehended in Jubilee Street, South Grafton, less than 30 minutes later.

He was taken to Grafton Police Station for questioning. The victim was taken to Grafton Base Hospital for treatment.

Police cordoned off an area of the park where a covered barbecue and table stand.

Just 30 minutes later, a South Grafton woman phoned for police assistance saying her 12-year-old son – who was armed with a knife – had assaulted her.

It is understood the woman managed to disarm her son before police arrived.
