Spurs boss heaps praise on attacking duo after win

TOTTENHAM manager Mauricio Pochettino has praised attacking stars Dele Alli and Harry Kane after the pair scored three goals between them in a 4-1 win at Southampton.

Alli scored twice and Kane scored his first goal for three games as Spurs fought back from conceding early to consolidate fifth place in the English Premier League, a point behind Arsenal.

Kane should have had two but ballooned a penalty way over the bar just moments after heading home his side's second.

"It was important for Kane and Alli as brilliant offensive players to score goals and I am very pleased with their performances,” Pochettino said.

"All the top sides have won over the festive period so it was important for us to keep fighting and after that I think we are in a good position.”

The Saints took the lead in the second minute when defender Virgil van Dijk headed home from a James Ward-Prowse free-kick.

A deflected cross from Moussa Sissoko then found Alli's head and he made no mistake to level.

Shortly after the break, Kane got his head to a Christian Eriksen corner to put Spurs in front but then missed the chance to stretch the lead from the spot as Nathan Redmond was sent off for pulling back Alli.

The visitors took control after the sending-off with substitute Son Heung-Min and Alli firing in low strikes to put gloss on the win.
