MID North Coast Team Penning Association will hold its monthly competition next Sunday at Macksville Showground.

Sign-on is at 8am for a start at 9am.

Spokesman Phil Grace was expecting increased numbers with the better spring weather on the way.

“Only three weeks between penning days, so how good is that?” he asked.

“Grab your gear and head on over and bring some spectators as well.

“I’m sure they’d love a steak sandwich and entertainment.

“August is membership renewal time so bring some extra pocket money for treasurer Kate and help us keep her happy.”

Grace described the July competition day as “a cracker”.

“The weather was fantastic and it was great to see a heap of new faces and riders,” he said.

“As usual, we had a strong roll up of regulars and the upcoming national competition has really brought out the competitive streaks in some of our members, especially the girls.

“We officially have a team called the Screamers, made up of, in no particular vocal order, Jodie Griffiths, Fiona Lockhart and Peta Davison.

“Let’s just say the name is derived from their vocal gymnastics in the arena and leave it at that.

“The cattle were great, making everyone earn their scores, if they scored at all.

“It was another sterling performance from the canteen volunteers and I could barely drag myself away from that piece of vanilla slice and back onto my horse after lunch.”

The association welcomed plenty of youth competitors who put in great work again and thanked the parents who support them and bring them along.
